Public Works and Services
Principal areas of service include water/culvert/storm sewer information, flooding, road signs and street lights, sidewalks, snow removal, spills on public land, street paving, traffic, and fallen trees.
The Public Works and Services Division has four major functions which are summarized below. A 24 hour - 7 day a week answering service is maintained at 474-4340. Please do not call the City Hall number after normal working hours. The Fax number is 474-3996. Fees (*) are charged for certain services listed below. Voice mail is only available Monday to Saturday 07:00 - 01:00 and Sunday 0:800 - 18:00 hrs. Office is open to the public Monday to Friday 08:00 - 16:00.
Fee For Service Information
The following services can be contracted with the Public Works and Services Division.
Driveway curb extension $190.00: Minimum $440.00
New Driveway $120.00 a linear meter, $30.00 /coupling. Minimum $225.00
Sewer Rodding $70.00, after hours $100.00
Power Rodding $170.00, after hours $210.00
Camera Inspection $180.00; after hours $220.00
Sale of Water $70.00 up to 2000 gallons, $1020.00 for seasonal lump sum
Water on/off $65.00 after hours $100.00
GST/HST is applicable except for the sale of water.
Road Sign and Street Light Information
Missing or damaged traffic or street name signs should be reported to Public Works Dispatcher at (705) 474-4340.
Report any street light outages or malfunctions to the Public Works Dispatcher at (705) 474-4340. The exact location of the street light is required. The outage reports are forwarded to North Bay Hydro for repair.
Financing of New Sidewalk Construction
Construction of City sidewalks is forecasted several years in advance and is approved annually by Council following the notification to affected property owners.
The need for sidewalks is based on the volume of pedestrian traffic and the volume and speed of vehicular traffic. Construction of new sidewalks will be financed from the current budget.
Sidewalk and Street Work
A street work permit is necessary to carry out certain works on the City road allowance. Private and residential property owners are exempt from the $20.00 permit fee although a permit is required for such physical changes as curbing, retaining walls, etc. Applications for street work permits are available at the Public Works and Services Division, Building No. 1, 1399 Franklin Street.
Concrete curb & gutter Cost $190.00 per lineal foot; minimum charge is $440.00 GST/HST applicable
Certain by-law restrictions apply with respect to length and location.

Snow Plowing
Snow clearing and removal is the responsibility of the Roads Department. Complaints should be directed to the Public Works Dispatcher at (705) 474-4340.

Property owners or their contractors are not permitted to deposit snow on the roadways (By-Law No. 31_96).
Spills on Public Land
Any spills of oil, gasoline, chemicals, etc. must be reported to the Public Works Dispatcher at (705) 474-4340.
The Ministry of the Environment will be notified of any reported spill on public land. The City's Pollution Control Officer will also be notified of any reported spill.
The City charges all costs for cleanup to the persons responsible.
Street Paving
The asphalt resurfacing of City streets is carried out on an annual basis. The condition of the roadways is reviewed and a recommendation is made to City Council for those streets proposed for resurfacing.

Traffic Information
Information relating to traffic matters such as speed limits, stop signs, traffic signs, lane markings, traffic signals, etc. can be made to Dan Haddow, Traffic Supervisor, at (705) 474-4340.
Requests for changes to speed limits, parking prohibitions or stop signs should be made in writing to the City Clerk, City of North Bay, P.O. Box 360, North Bay, Ontario, P1B 8H8, as a by-law amendment is required.

Trees Fallen On Roadway/Hydro Line
Any trees or debris obstructing the roadways should be reported to the Transportation and Public Works Dispatcher at (705) 474-4340.
Trees fallen on hydro wires should be reported to North Bay Hydro at (705) 474-8100.
