THE DIONNE QUINTUPLETS

The web site dedicated to the Dionne Quintuplets was launched Tuesday October 28, 1997 at the North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce Dionne Quints Museum.

Included on the web site are digital copies of:

  • Original Quints artifacts
  • Magazine articles
  • Photographs
  • Newspaper clippings from museum collections in the Nipissing area.

The site contains over 3000 images.

Web site partners are:

  • The North Himsworth Museum,
  • The North Himsworth Public Library,
  • The City of North Bay,
  • The North Bay Area Museum,
  • The North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce (owners of the Dionne Quints Museum),
  • The North Bay Public Library.

This digitization project was funded by the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship, Culture, and Recreation, Cultural Partnerships Branch, through a Digital Content Creation grant. Additional support for a summer student was received from the Industry Canada SchoolNet Digitization fund.

The images of the Quints have captivated people from all walks of life for over fifty years; we wanted to offer these wonderful glimpses of the Quints’ early lives to anyone with access to the Internet. Seeing the digital museum artifacts may inspire tourists and researchers to visit the Nipissing District in person.

The Dionne Quintuplets Digitization Project is another example of how geographic distances can be transcended by telecommunications to allow universal access to information.

Web surfers can view this fun and informative archival site through the North Bay Public Library's web site, at:

www.city.north-bay.on.ca/quints/digitize/dqdp.htm

Or, if you are browsing through the City of North Bay web site, you can find the Quints in the Tourism and Recreation section, under the Dionne Digitization Content Project in the Area Museums section.

The digitized images are displayed under broad subject headings, in a browsable format. Phase two involved cataloguing and indexing each digitized image using metatags, and translation into French. The site is not being updated, so more recent news articles about the surviving Dionne sisters (after 1997) will not be found here. The partners encourage everyone to take a look at the site!
